CONVERSIONS AND EQUIVALENTS

"Some things are worth memorizing. Others can be looked up."

Weight and Liquid Measures

I made a lot of very sweet wine using C.J.J. Berry's First Steps in Winemaking before I realized that a Imperial, or British, gallon was larger than an American gallon. That realization led me to discover that our cups, pints and quarts are also different. How the colonies of any country could come to have different measures than the parent country for the same named units has remained a mystery to me, but it is an important fact that the differences exist.
